Baja del Sol is a UCSD student-run project devoted to helping orphanages in Tijuana, Mexico resolve their issues. Since the beginning of 2017, we have identified the issue of hot water insecurity in several orphanages, leading us to develop, install, and refine two solar water heating systems at La Hacienda Orphanage. We reduced their propane spending by 75 percent, improved the children’s hygiene standard, and empowered the children
through our engineering curriculum.
